Araw ng mga Buntis Project. The Municipal Health Office (MHO) of Los Baños, Laguna will conduct “Araw ng mga Buntis” on March 10-14, a project organized and implemented yearly during the first or second week of March at the Los Baños Health Care Center which aims to reduce prenatal morbidity and mortality among Los Baños citizens.
Activities for Maternal and Prenatal Care. “Araw ng mga Buntis” is an annual event to celebrate the “Maternal and Child Health Week”. This year, the MHO will have different activities lined up for maternal and child health care. Among these activities for pregnant women are:
- Nutrition counseling
- Health education
- Laboratory screening
- Continuous monitoring of weight and health of expectant and nursing mothers
and many other activities that will guarantee a healthy pregnancy and a safe delivery. The activities for child health care are:
- Breastfeeding advocacy
- Promotion and laboratory screening
which will prevent low birth weight of the baby and will avoid neonatal infections.
Special Activities. Pregnant women will also experience many fun special activities like the search for the sexiest pregnant woman to enjoy all the activities lined up for “Araw ng mga Buntis”.
Budget for the Project and other Los Baños Health Services. This project will use Gender and Development (GAD) Fund as the funding source for the implementation of the activities. Also, the MHO will use GAD Fund as an additional fund for all the other health services that they will provide. Last year’s total budget for Los Baños health services was Php 13,039,058.40 (amount in thousands), according to losbanos.gov.ph. These health services encompass not only the care for the mothers and unborn, but also the:
- Newborn or child care
- Adolescent and youth care
- Reproductive and women’s health
- Care for the adults
- Cancer prevention program
- Blindness prevention program
- Communicable disease prevention and control program
- Disaster preparedness program
- Healthy lifestyle program
- Health and sanitation program
- Dental program
- Laboratory program
- Continuing medical program
- Quality assurance program.
Promoting Maternal and Child Health Care. Los Baños Municipal Health Unit (MHU) will continue to implement this “Araw ng mga Buntis” project every year to promote the mental and physical health of expectant mothers and their babies from the prenatal or pregnancy stage onward, for the most important factors influencing child health occur before birth.
